Description
Shape: oblique tubes, also called feathers or tubes. How to eat: used for fresh, light compositions, e.g. based on herbs or traditional Italian sauces. Origin: the Italian name penne means a feather and was born from a cut end, resembling a goose feather, in Naples. Penne is the most famous, next to spaghetti, Italian pasta. There are several varieties of it, including: penne rigate (ribbed), penne lisce (smooth), pennette (short) and rigatoni (large, straight at the ends).
